Wilkes Men's Lacrosse Drops Landmark Matchup Against Scranton
EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – The Wilkes University men's lacrosse team hosted the University of Scranton at Schmidt Stadium Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Royals 30-6 in the team's final home game of the season.
The Colonels fall to 4-11 overall (1-6 Landmark), while the Royals improve to 9-6 on the season (7-0 Landmark).
Scranton opened the scoring at 13:59, before
Anthony DiFrancesco (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) got the Colonels on the board with the helper from
Austin Sosnovik (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) at 11:57. Scranton then went on a 10-0 scoring streak to close the opening quarter and take an 11-1 lead.
The Colonels came out of the quarter break hot, scoring three in a row.
Blaine Snyder (Germansville, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) and A. Sosnovik paired up twice on the team's second and fourth goals, sandwiching a
Ben Byers (Harding, PA/Wyoming Area) goal. The Royals tacked on three more goals after the Colonel run to take a 14-4 lead into halftime.
After the half, the Colonels scored once in the third and once in the fourth, both goals coming from DiFrancesco, but ultimately fell to the Royals 30-6.
DiFrancesco led Wilkes with three goals, matching Snyder (2G 1A) for a team-high three points.
Colin Webb (Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) and
Mac Jackson (Long Valley, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) led the team with three ground balls each. In goal,
Caleb Miller (Mohrsville, PA/Schuylkill Valley) took the loss while making 15 saves, eclipsing the 500 save mark for his career.
Kyle Holmes led the way for the Royals, scoring five goals and assisting on a further two for a game-high seven points. Quinn Carson (4G 2A) and Myles McCutcheon (2G 4A) followed with six points each. In goal, Carson Kirchner earned the win with two saves in the 15 minutes of action.
Wilkes returns to action on Saturday, April 18 as they travel to face Moravian University at 1:00 p.m.
