Wilkes Women's Tennis Falls in Landmark First Round at Drew 4-2
MADISON, NJ – The No. 5 seed Wilkes University women's tennis team saw its season come to a close falling 4-2 at No. 4 seed Drew University Tuesday afternoon at the Drew Tennis Complex.
Wilkes finished 10-9 overall on the season following the road defeat. Drew improved to 10-10 overall and advanced to the semifinals to face No. 1 seed the University of Scranton.
Drew captured the one team point in doubles play with wins at No. 2 (6-3) and No. 3 (6-2). The duo of
Ana Savkovic (Belgrade, Serbia/The Hoosac School) and
Julia Spaeth (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg Area) won 6-0 at No. 1 for the Colonels.
Savkovic finished her first campaign at Wilkes without a defeat in singles play winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 for the Colonels first points. Savkovic posted a perfect 19-0 singles record all at the top spot including a 16-0 mark in dual matches.
Isabel Schreffler (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) followed with a straight set 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2.
Drew secured the match win with victories at No. 4 and No. 5 in straight sets before clinching the match with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 6.
