Men's Soccer Falls at Home to Misericordia
EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – The Wilkes University men's soccer team scored its first goal of the 2026 season in the final seconds on Wednesday night but ultimately fell to visiting Misericordia University, 3–1.
Wilkes drops to 0–4 on the season, while Misericordia improves to 3–3.
The two sides battled in a physical first 45 minutes, with neither team finding the back of the net. The best scoring opportunity came right before the half, when the Cougars drew a penalty kick. However, Colonels goalkeeper
Tyler Tarnalicki (Plains, PA/Holy Redeemer) got down to make the low save, keeping it scoreless at the break.
The Cougars finally broke through in the 55th minute, when Elijah Uray scored off a corner kick. Uray tacked his second on the night off a penalty kick in the 65th minute, thanks to a gaffe by the Colonels' back line. Misericordia opened up a 3–0 lead seven minutes later when Dominic Paolini scored from close range.
As the game wound down, the Colonels scored their first goal of the 2026 season with one second remaining. Lorenzo Lici (Pavullo Nel Frignano, Italy/Camp Hill) scored the goal, taking a long ball from Josh Tigue (Clifford, PA/Mountain View) and lofting it over the Misericordia goalkeeper to make it a 3–1 final score.
The Cougars outshot Wilkes 13–7, including 6–5 on goal. Tarnalicki played all 90 minutes in goal for the Colonels, making three saves on the night.
Wilkes returns to Bruggeworth Field on Saturday, Sept. 19 to face Hood College. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
