Wilkes Field Hockey Falls to McDaniel 2-1
WESTMINSTER, Md – Host McDaniel defeated the Wilkes University field hockey team in a tightly contested nonconference match up on Saturday afternoon.
The Colonels drop to 2-5 while McDaniel improves to 2-4 on the season.
The opening quarter brought few scoring opportunities for both teams as neither team found the back of the net. Despite the scoreless quarter, Wilkes and McDaniel traded two shots.
McDaniel got on the board in the second quarter with a goal in the 24th minute, capitalizing on a penalty stroke that was converted by Charley Noah.
Wilkes went scoreless in the first half, but opened the third quarter quickly with a goal from
Taylor Bower (Bloomsburg, PA/Bloomsburg) assisted by
Maddie Karp (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) to level the game. McDaniel had an immediate response, reclaiming the lead for a 2-1 victory.
McDaniel held a 17-4 shot advantage while accumulating 13 penalty corners to Wilkes' four. The Colonels that found shots on goal were
Emma Lautenbacher (Bangor, PA/Bangor),
Morgan Hermanofski (Shickshinny, PA/Northwest Area), and Karp.
Chloe Gilroy (Manchester, NH/Pace University) recorded a full game in net with six saves in the afternoon.
The Colonels host their next match up against Eastern University on Tuesday, September 22. The game will begin at 7 p.m. respectively.
