Wilkes Men's Soccer Bested by NYU
EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – The Wilkes University men's soccer team remain in search of their first win of the season, falling to NYU 6-0 at Bruggeworth Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Colonels fall to 0-2 on the young season, while the Violets improve to 2-0.
Wilkes frustrated the opposition early, catching the NYU offense offside multiple times with
Tyler Tarnalicki (Plains, PA/Holy Redeemer) making two saves and the Colonel defense making another.
The Violets then punished Wilkes for a defensive error in the 32
nd minute, breaking the deadlock and taking a 1-0 lead. In the 38
th minute, the visitors found an open man at the back post to double the lead and take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
After the break, NYU added four more goals to take a 6-0 victory.
Lorenzo Lici (Pavullo Nel Frignano, Italy/Camp Hill) led Wilkes with two shots on goal late in the second half. Tarnalicki made nine saves between the sticks, including a full-stretch effort in the second half.
Wilkes returns to action on Wednesday, September 9 as they head across town to face King's College. Kickoff against the Monarchs is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
