Wilkes Women's Soccer Falls Against No. 20 Misericordia 3-0
DALLAS, Pa. - The Wilkes University women's soccer team had their first loss of the season against nationally-ranked Misericordia University on Sunday afternoon.
The Colonels move to a 2-1-0 record on the season, while Misericordia advance to 1-0-1.
Despite the Colonels and Cougars being held scoreless in the first half, there were electrifying opportunities by both teams. Misericordia controlled the majority of the first half with 10 shots, three on target, while the Colonels' Katie Clark produced one shot that was on target.
Misericordia was able to break down the Colonels' defense within the first 13 seconds of the second half, securing the lead. Another goal was not found until the 67th minute, when a 30-yard rocket by Misericordia sailed to the back of the net. The Cougars added a late goal, placing a shot in the top-left corner of the net to seal the 3-0 victory.
Sarah Straup (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) and Clarke were the only forwards to produce shots on net, sharing one shot on net each.
Delaney Yaracs (Butler, PA/Butler) made five saves while dealing with Misericordia's relentless attack.
The Colonels return to action at the Ralston Athletic Complex on Bruggeworth field on Wednesday, September 9. Kick off will take place at 7 p.m. respectively.
