WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's volleyball team kept their undefeated streak alive Tuesday night at the Marts Center, sweeping Keystone College to move to 5-0 for the first time since 2009.
With the score tied at seven in the first set, Wilkes put the pressure on with an 11-1 scoring run to take a dominant 18-8 lead, helped by three aces and two kills from
Abby Dornblaser (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown). Three more aces from
Diana Fuentes (Allentown, PA/Lehigh Valley Academy) down the stretch helped the Colonels to claim the first set 25-14, finished off by a kill from senior
Kendra Kalp (Somerset, PA/Rockwood).
The Giants led early in the second set up 6-4, before a six-point Colonel rally with two kills and an ace by
Mia Leon (Ponce, PR/Caribbean) gave the hosts a 10-6 advantage. The navy and gold then outscored the visitors 15-5 to take the second set, with Kalp once again providing the dagger with two kills and another Fuentes ace.
Keystone remained in the fight until the middle of the third set, keeping the score deadlocked at 13. The Colonels then put the game out of reach with a 9-1 run to go up 22-15, finishing the game with a kill by
Olivia Contreras (Northridge, CA/Grover Cleveland) to win 25-16.
