Matt Hochstatter begins his first season as pitching coach for the Colonels in 2015.
Hochstatter is a native of Somonauk, IL. He attended Illinois Valley Community College on a full athletic baseball scholarship before transferring to play at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Entrepreneurship.
He began his coaching career as the pitching coach for the Fulton Railroaders of the Ohio Valley Collegiate Baseball League in 2012. He was then promoted to head coach of the Railroaders, where he led the squad to the Ohio Valley League post-season championship in 2013. He was also hired as the pitching coach for the St. Catharine College Patriots baseball team from 2012-14. His first year at St. Catharine, the patriots amassed a team ERA of 3.00 (11th in the nation) while striking out 404 batters in 58 games (14th in nation). His second year, the Patriot staff had a conference opposing batting average of .243, allowed 196 hits in 27 games, while striking out 186 in 27 conference games. All of this numbers were good enough to be ranked 1st in the Mid-South Conference.
During his time at St. Catharine, Hochstatter earned his Master’s degree in Leadership-Health Promotion, while maintaining a 4.0 GPA and earning Alpha Chi Honors. During the summer of 2014, Hochstatter was head coach of the Waccamaw Waves of the Beach Collegiate Baseball League in Myrtle Beach, SC. His pitching staff once again led the league in ERA (3.39) and strikeouts with 213 in 183 innings pitched.
