Matt Hollod

This bio is now a part of a historical archive, the individual was on the staff from 2013-2015 and is no longer employed by Wilkes University.

After nine years of being an assistant at programs from around the country, Matt Hollod took over as Wilkes head baseball coach just prior to the 2013 season.

In 2015, the Colonels continued to improve on the diamond.  The teams pitching staff posted their best season since 2006 with a 4.79 earned run average.  After losing many key pieces after the 2013 season, the Colonels offense bounced back by putting together the third best offense in the league with 251 runs scored and a .313 team batting average.  Six Colonels were selected to the Freedom All-Conference team.

During his three seasons as head coach, Hollod has implemented year around strength and conditioning programs for his athletes, both throwing and hitting programs, and has created camps on campus for both high school and youth kids in and out of the area.  During the spring of 2014, Hollod spearheaded a facility upgrade with the help and support of the administration and President.  A brand new 30ft navy blue mesh fence was built in left field that goes 200ft out to left center.  A smaller padded wall attaches and goes from left center field around to right field.  Twelve Colonels have been named to the Freedom All-Conference team under Hollod.

Prior to Wilkes, Hollod served as associate head baseball coach at Freedom Conference rival DeSales University for two years.  At DeSales, Hollod was the recruiting coordinator and also worked with both pitchers and hitters.  Hollod also implemented the first ever fall hitting school at DeSales.

Hollod served as the head baseball coach for the Willmar Stingers out of the Northwoods League from 2010 to 2013. In four years as manager for the Stingers, Hollod tallied 160 wins which puts him in the top 10 all-time in the league. His .573 winning percentage is second highest in the leagues 22 year history. Hollod had also recruited 36 players to the Stingers, and helped develop, who have gone on to play professionally.

Before moving to DeSales, Hollod was an associate head coach at Southern Utah University for one year. Hollod signed a nationally ranked recruit out of Las Vegas in his one year as recruiting coordinator, worked with hitters, implemented his fall hitting school, and managed team scheduling and travel expenses. Prior to Southern Utah, Hollod served as an assistant coach at Willamette University for one year. In that time he moved one player onto a Division I baseball program.

After graduation, Hollod served as an assistant coach at the University of Portland from 2003 to 2008. He was especially strong in recruiting for Portland from 2006 to 2008, signing five All-Conference players as well as one freshman All-American in just a three year span. Hollod was also instrumental in setting up an in-state rivalry match-up against former NCAA National Champion Oregon State at PGE Park in 2008.

Hollod also arranged and coordinated the 2009 Rose City Classic, featuring the Portland Pilots, Oregon Ducks, Washington Huskies and Hawaii Warriors. He served as a representative of the University at annual LPGA Safeway Classic fundraising events while performing other duties including managing team budget, scheduling, and implementing his Fall Hitting Camp for the first time at the University.

Prior to his coaching career, Hollod was a four-time letter winner in baseball at the University of Washington and the University of Portland. He was an honorable mention all-West Coach Conference selection during his junior season where he was a consistent starter for the Pilots on the mound. As a hitter, Hollod led the team with a .346 average in his final season in Portland. Before college, Hollod prepped at Mark Morris High School in Longview, Wash.
