Konieczka joins the Wilkes football staff as linebackers coach for the 2022 season.
He comes to Wilkes following five seasons as a coach at St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, N.C. During his time at St. Andrews, Konieczka held multiple titles including Defensive Assistant Coach Linebackers, Defensive Run Game Coordinator, Recruiting Coordinator, Weight Training & Conditioning Coordinator, Special Teams Coach, Defensive Academic Coordinator, Athletic Training Liaison, Social Media Liaison, and Assistant Film Coordinator.
During his tenure he coached four First Team All-Conference linebackers and four Academic All-Conference selections and oversaw the training of two All-Americans and 26 All-Conference players during his four years as the head of the Strength & Conditioning program.
A 2017 graduate of Ferrum College with a Bachelor of Science in Health & Human Performance with an emphasis in Exercise and Sport Studies and a minor in Coaching, Konieczka was a four-year member of the Ferrum football team. As a player, Konieczka started at middle linebacker and was a team captain for the Panthers defense. Konieczka, was a USA South All-Conference selection as a linebacker, the Ferrum Linebacker of the Year, and a VASID All-State selection during his senior campaign in 2016. He was a USA South Academic All-Conference selection in 2015 and 2016.
Konieczka was blessed to receive the Big Green Award which is given annually to a senior Panther football player who best demonstrates the qualities of courage, hustle, and desire as a role model for his fellow teammates. The award is named in memory of the seven former Ferrum Junior College football players and Coach Rick Tolley who perished in the Marshall University football team airline tragedy in November of 1970. He received the Senior of the Year Award from the College’s SGA, was a part of Ferrum’s Brother4Brother mentoring program, was a SAAC representative at the NCAA National Convention, and was a Leadership fellow.
He began his coaching career in the fall of 2017 as a Graduate Assistant at St. Andrews during its inaugural season of football following an internship on Ferrum’s staff in the spring of 2017.
From Morrisville, N.C., Konieczka was a two-time All-Conference selection in football at Cary High School.
