Tripp Merritt begins his second season on the Wilkes football staff in 2018 and will serve as the Defensive Coordinator as well as coach the Colonel safeties.
Merritt has over 25 years of coaching and administrative experience, most recently serving as an assistant coach at Susquehanna University in 2015. Prior to Susquehanna, Merritt was the athletic director and head football coach at Christ's Church Academy in Jacksonville, Fla.
Merritt has spent time as either a head or assistant coach at Lenoir-Rhyne University, Davidson College, Bucknell University, Saint Mary's College (CA) and Western Carolina University. He was the head coach at Davidson from 2005-12 and the associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Bucknell from 2002-05. In 2006 while at Davidson, Merritt was named co-coach of the year of the Pioneer Football League with Jim Harbaugh.
Merritt graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1990 with a degree in history and a minor in geography. He has two daughters Ellie (9) and Lizzie (5).
