Owen Wignot enters his fourth season as an assistant coach on the Wilkes men’s basketball staff.
Wignot is no stranger to the Wyoming Valley having starred on the Holy Redeemer basketball team as a prep player. He accepted a full scholarship to play at Division I Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y. where he played four years on the men’s basketball team.
While at Siena, Wignot was part of two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances. He was elected Newcomer of the Year by his teammates as a rookie at Siena as well as being voted a two-time Defender of the Year by his coaches. Wignot was also named team captain during his senior season.
Following graduation, Wignot began his coaching career at Luzerne County Community College where he assisted the head coach in all aspects of game preparation during the 2013-14 season. He was also instrumental in the recruitment of Wyoming Valley high schools players to the college as well as serving in head coaching capacity during times of practice.
Wignot worked a plethora of basketball camps while at Siena where he fostered teamwork, commitment, and personal responsibility on and off the court. He also served as the spokesperson for Siena’s Albany Outreach program, where he discussed athletic experiences with elementary schools and children’s hospitals in the community.
Wignot graduated from Siena in May of 2012 with a degree in Creative Arts.
