Stefan Thompson

Stefan Thompson begins his third season on the Wilkes sidelines under head coach Izzi Metz.
 
Thompson is no stranger to coach Metz having played under the Colonels mentor at Hobart College the first two years of his college career in 2009-10 and 2010-11 during Metz’s tenure with the school.
 
At Wilkes Thompson’s coaching responsibilities include recruiting, preparing the team for opponents, on-court coaching duties, scouting, travel planning and monitoring of student-athletes’ academic progress. He also serves as the Director of Intramurals at Wilkes.
 
Thompson came to Wilkes after one year as the assistant men’s basketball coach at Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse, New York. At Christian Brothers, Thompson aided in the process of development by teaching the fundamentals of the game utilizing different coaching techniques around a team first concept. He also worked as coordinator of Co-Ed Intramural Basketball in Geneva, New York.
 
Thompson enjoyed an outstanding playing career at Hobart leading his teams to three Liberty League regular season championships (2010, 2012, 2013) graduating with the most wins for a senior class in school history (82-31). As a senior captain, he led Hobart to the 2013 Liberty League Tournament Championship earning a second trip to the NCAA Tournament.
 
A four-year starter at point guard for the Statesmen, Thompson finished with 1,643 points (14.5 ppg) shooting 46.5 percent from the floor and 83.5 percent from the free throw line over his career. He also finished with 492 career assists (4.4 apg) as the lead guard.
 
A three-time All-Liberty League First Team selection, Thompson was named Liberty League Player of the Year as a senior in 2013 when he led the Statesmen to a 21-7 overall record. He was also named Second Team All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), First Team ECAC Upstate, and First Team All-East D3hoops.com as a senior.
