Phil Erickson '22, '23 MBA

This bio is now a part of a historical archive, the individual was on the coaching staff from 2023 to 2024 and is no longer employed by Wilkes University. 

Phil Erickson '22, '23 MBA joins the Wilkes men's ice hockey staff as an assistant coach for the 2023-24 season following a five-year career on the ice for the Colonels.

Erickson graduated from Wilkes in May 2023 with his Master of Business Administration after obtaining his Bachelor of Science in Financial Investments and a minor in Business Analytics the year prior.

Throughout his time at Wilkes, Erickson has demonstrated a strong commitment to the university on and off the ice. He currently oversees a staff of 20 student resident assistants as a residence hall director and previously served as the president of the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) from 2021-2022. 

The Eau Claire, Wis. native recently worked as a Graduate Assistant for the Office of the President, where he assisted with project management and event coordination. He was also a member of the Finance and Investment Club, the E-Mentoring program and vice president of the Dean's Student Advisory Board on campus. 

In the community, Erickson participated in Intercollegiate Leadership Wilkes-Barre and dedicated over 2,700 hours to numerous community service events such as the St. Vincent de Paul Community Kitchen, Alzheimer's Association and Habitat for Humanity.

Erickson was named an All American Scholar by the American Hockey Coaches Association (ACHA) and appeared on the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) All-Academic Team in all four of his undergraduate seasons. He also made the Dean's List in every semester of his academic career.

As a senior, he was awarded the Theresa Jordan and Frank Mehm Prize for displaying moral courage, participating in extracurriculars and advancing the university on and off campus. That same year, he also won Male Scholar Athlete of the Year, Outstanding Graduate for the Jay S. Sidhu School of Business, the Professor Ted Engel Award for Excellence in Finance and the Academic Achievement Award for Finance.

Erickson joined the Wilkes ice hockey team in 2018 for their inaugural season of play and was named team captain for his graduate season. By the end of his career on the ice, he held the program records for total games played (117) and short handed goals (6). He helped lead his team to two Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) championships in 2019-20 and 2021-22. 

Prior to joining the Colonels, Erickson spent time with the Madison Capitols of the United States Hockey League (USHL), the Coulee Region Chill and Topeka Roadrunners of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), the Whitecourt Wolverines of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) and the Northern Cyclones of the National Collegiate Development Conference (NCDC).
