    Faculty Mentor
Dr. Paola Bianco is a professor in Spanish and Latin American studies in the Global Cultures Division at Wilkes University. Her specialty is both, Latin American studies with a focus on feminism, human rights, and immigration, and Italian culture and immigration.

She has published newspaper and magazine articles on the cultures of Italy and Latin America, as well as Italian writers, movie directors and musician interviews in “America Oggi”, a New York newspaper about Italians and the Culture of Italy in USA.

Besides culture and language, Dr. Bianco has published two literary articles on women writers in peer review journals: Hispanofila and Acta Literaria.

Her first book, Tra Ermetismo e Realismo, published in Italian by Bastogi, an Italian publishing company, analyzes the poetry of Quasimodo, Cattafi and Aliberti.

She is the co-author of several anthologies of Latin American and Spanish literature and history, published by Focus publishing Company.

Her last two books were, first, a textbook for Spanish Conversation that included both, literary texts and very controversial introductions on topics such as immigration, euthanasia, and dictatorial regimes, among others. The second textbook was co-authored with two additional professors from the University of Chapel Hill in North Carolina. This is an Anthology of Women writers in Spanish that includes writers from the Philippines and Equatorial Guinea, plus indigenous, Nuyorican, Cuban American, and Chicana writers. Diversity is the novelty of the book. At the present time she is working with a professor of Pharmacy on an Advanced Medical Spanish textbook that includes four sections: 1. In the Pharmacy, 2. At the Hospitals and with the Doctor, 3. Diet, Nutrition and Exercises, and 4. Mental Health and Social Services.

She also founded the study abroad program in Spain, that has been operational since 2001, and she is the coordinator of Spain and Peru overseas programs for Spanish.
