Rachel Hartung Emmerthal

This bio is now a part of a historical archive, the individual was on the staff from 2005-2011 and is no longer employed by Wilkes University.

Rachel Hartung Emmerthal begins her sixth season as the head coach of the Wilkes women's basketball program after being named to the post in September of 2005.  Emmerthal has led the Lady Colonels to an overall record of 28-97 during her first five seasons.

In the 2009-2010 season, Coach Emmerthal led the Lady Colonels to an 11-13 overall record, recording nine more wins than the previous year.  That turn-around was the sixth best in the nation that season.

Emmerthal came to Wilkes after spending two seasons as the head coach at Centenary College in New Jersey. The Cyclones were 4-21 during her first season in 2003-04. The 2004-05 squad doubled the win total from the previous season, finishing the year with a record of 8-17 and securing a berth in the Skyline Conference tournament.

Emmerthal’s time at Centenary was not strictly spent on working with the women’s basketball program. She also served as an Adjunct Professor of Sport Management and performed administrative tasks in the athletic department.

Emmerthal graduated from DeSales University in 2001 with bachelor’s degrees in both Sport Management and Marketing. While at DeSales she was a four-year member of the women’s basketball team and helped the Bulldogs fashion an overall record of 82-30. A standout post-player, Emmerthal played a key role in helping DeSales win a pair of conference championships and garner two berths in the NCAA Division III Championships. She concluded her playing career with 898 points, 691 rebounds and 116 blocked shots.

After graduating from DeSales Emmerthal moved on to East Stroudsburg University, where she accepted a graduate assistant position with the women’s basketball program. During her two seasons with the Warriors she was active in all aspects of the women’s basketball program. She corroborated with the head coach on practices, recruiting, coaching the post players, and assisting with both strength training and academic monitoring.
