This bio is now a part of a historical archive, the individual was on the staff from 2010-2013 and is no longer employed by Wilkes University. 

Dave Shafer enters his third year at Wilkes University during the 2012-13 wrestling season after coaching at Hazleton Area High School for the past seven seasons. Putting together an overall record of 108-37, he was a three-time District 2 coach of the year, leading his teams to four District 2 AAA dual meet championships and tournament championships.

During his time at Hazleton, Shafer coached 61 individual district placewinners and regional qualifiers, along with 13 district champions, three northeast regional champions, nine PIAA state qualifiers, five PIAA state placewinners and one PIAA state champion. 

Shafer graduated from King's College in 2003 where he was a Scholar All-American and put together a 98-10 overall record, earning Outstanding Wrestler honors in winning the MAC title in 2002. Prior to King's, Shafer had a 131-24 record during his high school career at Hazleton, placing fifth in the PIAA in 1997. He was a three-time district champion and a 1998 northeast regional champion, in addition to earning Junior National All-American status in Greco-Roman in 1995 (2nd place) and 1997 (3rd place).
