Wilkes went 16-12 in 2009, including 4-3 in Freedom Conference play and earning a Freedom Conference Playoff birth. The 16 wins is tied for most in school history, and is the most wins since 1982. Rizzo is no stranger to the Wilkes-Barre area as she is a graduate of King’s College where she was a member of the Lady Monarch softball and volleyball teams. Not only was she a student at King’s, but after graduation she remained with the athletic department where she was the assistant softball coach from 2002-2009. While she was assisting with the King’s College softball program, she was also the junior varsity volleyball coach at Pittston Area High School for two years where she was in charge of all aspects of the junior varsity team. As a player for the Lady Monarch volleyball team, she helped them reach the Freedom Conference playoffs all four years and was a member of the 2000 team that won a conference championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. As a softball player, she served as a captain as a junior and senior and helped guide King’s to an overall record of 125-38 as well as three NCAA appearances and an ECAC championship.
