MADISON, N.J. – The Wilkes Lady Colonel volleyball team dropped it first match to FDU-Florham 3-1 (25-22, 25-15, 24-26, 25-9) before coming back to take a 3-0 (25-6, 25-22, 25-13) win over Rutgers-Newark in a tri-match hosted by FDU.
In the first match against FDU-Florham, the Devils tallied 48 kills with just 13 errors, while the Lady Colonels finished the match with 32 kills while committing 21 errors.
Katherine Harrington (LaFayette, N.Y./LaFayette Central) and Marissa each had nine kills each to lead Wilkes, while
Allison Kelleher (Sayre, Pa./Athens Area) had a team-high 17 digs
FDU-Florham's Patty Manhart had 11 kills and 15 digs for the only double-double of the match, while Lauren Brazier had a match-high 16 kills. The loss moves the Lady Colonels to 4-3 in Freedom Conference play, while FDU-Florham advanced to 6-1 in league contests.
In the second match, the Lady Colonels dominated Rutgers-Newark, committing just eight errors in the match.
Meaghan Williams (Hamlin, Pa./Western Wayne) and
Kaitlyn McGurk (Swarthmore, Pa./Ridley) led Wilkes with five kills each, while setter
LeeAnn Searfoss (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) had 15 assists in the win.
Wilkes improved to 10-19 on the year despite having less kills (19-18) and digs (33-18). The Lady Colonels will be back in action next Wednesday when they host Alvernia at 7 p.m. in the Marts Center for their final home match of the season.
