Devon McKay (Secane, Pa./Christian Academy) scored two of Wilkes' three goals in the second half to push the Lady Colonels to a 4-2 win over Delaware Valley to remain perfect in Freedom Conference play.
The Lady Colonels, ranked No. 18 in the latest NFHCA Coaches Poll, dominated the Aggies offensively, tallying 17 shots, 12 of which were on goal, while holding Delaware Valley to six shots on goal and nine total.
Lindsey Raleigh (Toms River, N.J./Toms River South) gave Wilkes the early lead with her second goal of the season with just over two minutes in on an assist from
Brittany Sines (Afton, N.Y./Afton Central). The Aggies would tie the game up after Danielle Heyne fired a shot that hit off of goal keeper
Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, Pa./Dallas), but Michelle Cernobyl was there to knock in the rebound at the 23:29 mark.
McKay would score her first goal of the game and sixth of the season on a penalty shot after Delaware Valley goal keeper Jackie Deschenes was called for smothering the ball. Sines shot went past Deschenes in the upper left side of the cage at the 40:36 mark to give Wilkes a 2-1 advantage.
Just under 19 minutes later,
Alyson Paulauskas (Shavertown, Pa./Lake-Lehman) dribbled the ball half way down the field before passing the ball to McKay as she knocked in the game-winning goal at the 59-minute mark. Less than two minutes later,
Alyssa Koncelik (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) fired a shot passed Deschenes to give the Lady Colonels a 4-1 commanding lead after a flurry of shots by Wilkes. Heyne would score the Aggies second goal at the 64-minute mark to keep the match close.
The win moves Wilkes to 15-1 overall and 6-0 in Freedom Conference play and will hit the road to face Alvernia at 1 p.m. Saturday before returning home to take on King's at 1 p.m. in Kingston. A win over either team will give Wilkes the No. 1 seed in the Freedom Conference Championship and will have the opportunity to host each of the games it participates in.
