Box Score

The Wilkes University field hockey team saw their 10-game winning streak come to an end, dropping a 3-1 decision to No. 13 Elizabethtown College on Saturday afternoon at Artillery Park.

With the loss, the Lady Colonels are now 10-1, while the Blue Jays see their record improve to 10-2 on the year.

Elizabethtown would take command of the contest early, scoring all three of their goals in the first six minutes of the game. Liz DeMatteis scored back-to-back goals within 30 seconds of each other, the first off of a feed from Alison Duval just 3:14 into the game and the second from a pass by Megan Angstadt with 31:15 remaining in the half. Angstadt would then add the team's last goal off an assist by Julie Foster at the 29:29 mark.

Wilkes would step up their pressure in the second half, but would only find the back of the cage once. Amanda Peters (Catasauqua, Pa./Catasauqua) took a pass from Gina Elmy (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R.) and beat the Blue Jay keeper to close the margin to 3-1. However, the Lady Colonels would not score again.

The Blue Jays held a slight 12-11 advantage in shots for the game while Wilkes had an 11-7 edge in penalty corners. Liz Hannegan made five saves in goal for Elizabethtown, while Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) stopped six shots for the Lady Colonels.

Wilkes will return to action next Saturday when they play host to Montclair State at 1 p.m.
