WILKES ENDS REGULAR SEASON WITH 4-2 VICTORY OVER FDU-FLORHAM

Will host Manhattanville in Freedom Playoffs on Thursday

MADISON, N.J. – The Wilkes University men's soccer team concluded their regular season this afternoon as they traveled to FDU-Florham and came away with a 4-2 conference victory.
 
With the win, Wilkes finished the regular season with a 9-7-2 overall record and a conference mark of 5-2-1, while FDU sees their season end with a record of 4-15 and a 1-7 conference mark.
 
Wilkes opened up the scoring when Greg Miller (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood) was able to put home an unassisted goal at the 29:52 mark. They would stretch their lead to 2-0 less than six minutes later when Arthur Jankowski (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) found the back of the net on another unassisted play. 
 
FDU was able to cut the lead in half at the 42:51 mark when John Gaw took a feed from Mauricio Rosas and beat Wilkes' goalie TJ Baloga (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin). The score would stay at 2-1 going into the half.
 
Just over seven minutes into the second half, Ed Zulkoski (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) scored the third goal of the game for the Colonels to extend their margin back to two scores at 3-1. Wilkes would then increase their cushion even more at the 59:52 mark when Troy Gibson (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) connected for a score of his own off of a Miller pass to make the count 4-1.
 
Matt Kinsley was able to score once more for the Devils in the 75th minute to post the final 4-2 margin.
 
Baloga and Kaleb Smith (Beavertown, Pa./Medd-West) split time in the goal for Wilkes as the duo combined to make three saves in the win, while Kevin Herbert stopped eight shots for FDU in the losing effort.
 
The Colonels, the No. 2 seed, will begin play in the Freedom Conference playoffs on Thursday when they host No. 3 Manhattanville in the semifinals.
