The Wilkes University field hockey team and men's soccer team will extend their seasons as the two squads have been invited to participate in the ECAC Championships Wednesday.

The Lady Colonels will host Washington & Jefferson at 2 p.m. at Artillery Park in Kingston while the Colonel soccer team will head to Erie to face PSU-Behrend at noon the same day at the University of Gannon.

The Lady Colonels will enter the event as the No. 2 seed and currently sit at 17-3. They host a Washington & Jefferson team that will come to Kingston with a 12-7 record, but have dropped two of its last four games. W&J was seeded No. 7 by the ECAC and William Patterson was awarded the No. 1 seed. The Presidents are coming off a 3-1 loss to No. 17 Stevens in the championship game of the Empire 8 Tournament, marking their second loss in eight days to the Ducks.

Wilkes enters the contest as the runner-up in the Freedom Conference Championship, falling 2-1 to Eastern last Saturday. Ironically, two of the three Lady Colonel losses have come at Artillery Park. Wilkes started the season 10-0 before falling to Elizabethtown 3-1.

The winner of the Wilkes/Washington & Jefferson game will face the winner of the No. 3 Kean and No. 6 Frostburg State matchup at a time and place to be determined.

The 10-7-3 Colonel soccer team will hit the road to face PSU Behrend and its 13-7-1 overall record. Wilkes lost in the championship game of the Freedom Conference Tournament in sudden death penalty kicks to No. 1 seed Misericordia.

The Lions have won four of their last four games with one of those contests coming in a tie. They lost 3-0 in the championship game of the AMCC title game 3-0 to No. 1 seeded Medaille.

The 2008 ECAC Tournament seeds are King's College (1), Frostburg State (2), Catholic University (3), Penn State Behrend (4), Wilkes (5), Wesley (6), Washington & Jefferson (7), and Widener (8). The Behrend/Wilkes winner will advance to play the winner of the Kings versus Widener Game on Friday. Saturday's championship game is TBA.
