The Wilkes University volleyball team had an impressive showing in its own tri-match featuring Marywood and Alright. The Lady Colonels took down Marywood 3-2 in the first match before defeating Albright 3-1 in the final contest of the day.

Junior Marissa Harrison (Shavertown/Lake-Lehman) finished with 35 kills on the day, 20 against Marywood and 15 more in the Albright match. Perhaps even more impressively, she committed just eight errors in 69 total attacks.

In the first game against Marywood, the Lady Colonels came out on fire, winning the first two games 25-11 and 25-22. In the first game, Wilkes hit .231 while holding Marywood to a negative hitting percentage. The Lady Colonels led 18-9 before the Pacers were able to reach double-digit points.

The Lady Colonels would take the momentum into game two as they jumped out to an early lead once again behind a four-kill, one error performance from Kate McGurk (Swarthmore/Ridley). She would finish with eight kills in the match as well as two aces.

Marywood would bounce back to win the next two games 25-22 and 25-16 before the fifth and final game would go back and forth before the Lady Colonels pulled out a 23-21 nail-biter.

Both teams exchanged points in the final game before the Lady Colonels had match point at 14-13, but the Pacers battled back to score two-straight points to have match point of their own. The two teams would exchange points with Marywood holding match point, but somehow the Lady Colonels were able to battle back each time until the would score back-to-back points to win their 14th match of the year.

In the Albright match, the Lady Colonels came out hot once again, taking a 25-22 win before the Lions roared back to win the second game 25-14. The loss didn't affect Wilkes as it bounced to win the final two games and the match 25-13 and 25-21.

As a team the Lady Colonels picked up 47 kills as well as nine total team blocks. McGurk had four block assists, while Emily DeBuck (Pine Island, NY/Warwick Valley) had three.

Wilkes improved to 15-9 on the year with the pair of victories and will be going for its 16th win of the season when the Lady Colonels host league-leader Eastern at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
