Box Score

WILKES-BARRE – Brittany Sines (Afton, N.Y./Afton Central) scored a goal four-and-a-half minutes into the second half that broke a 1-1 tie and proved to be the difference as Wilkes University took a 3-2 field hockey win over King's College.

The Lady Colonels had a quick start as Amanda Peters (Catasauqua/Catasauqua) gave the Lady Colonels an early 1-0 lead just 2:06 into the game. The score would remain that way until King's Jackie Sikora tied the contest with a goal off a deflection with seven minutes left in the first half.

The game went back and fourth as Wilkes got eight shots off while King's was able to tally seven of its own. The two teams would finish with 14 and 10 shot respectively, but the Lady Colonels were able to put 12 shots on goal, four of which came from Cassie DiSabatino (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood). King's offense was nearly as potent with eight shots on goal with Sikora picking up two.

With the Lady Colonels up 2-1 after Sines' goal on a give and go pass, Amanda Tilley (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) made it 3-1 after she received a pass from Peters from the left wing.

Not to be outdone, Calli Berryman made the game close as she scored three minutes later with an assist from Jacki Sikora 65 minutes into the contest. Goalie Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) would keep the lead for the Lady Colonels as she stopped six shots on the night.

Wilkes improved to 12-2 overall and 4-1 in Freedom Conference play. King's fell to 8-7 on the year and 3-2 in conference action.
