Box Score

The Wilkes University field hockey team hosted Misericordia on Tuesday, and through the rain defeated the Cougars by a final score of 6-2 with the help of five first period goals.

In the first half it didn't take long for Wilkes to find the back of the net, as in the second minute Alyson Paulauskas (Shavertown, Pa./Lake-Lehman) found Jennifer Keegan (Shohola, Pa./Delaware Valley) for her 14th score of the season. Three minutes later Jenna DiSabatino (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) found Paulauskas for the second Wilkes goal. In the 10th minute Paulauskas hooked up with Keegan once more, putting the Lady Colonels up 3-0 with over 60 minutes left in the game.

The Cougars answered in the 18th minute on a score by Samantha Sorokas, but Wilkes added two more goals before the half on scores by Paulauskas and Jenna DeSbatino.

In the second period Wilkes tacked on one more score when Amanda Peters (Catasauqua/Catasauqua) scored in the 41st minute, with the Cougars scoring the final goal of the game five minutes later when Haley Ellis found Sorokas for her second score.

The Lady Colonels were led by Paulauskas with two goals and three assists, while Jenna DiSabatino (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) had a goal and two assists.

Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) handled most of the goaltending for Wilkes, recording three saves in 63 minutes.

Wilkes is now ranked 14th in the nation, and will look to improve on their 13-2 record when they host Delaware Valley on Thursday, Oct. 29 at Artillery Park. That game will begin at 3:30 p.m.
