Box Score

The Wilkes University field hockey team traveled to Ithaca, N.Y. to take on the Bombers in non-conference action Wednesday, and after giving up an early goal eventually defeated their opponent, 3-1.

The game did not start the way Wilkes intended, with Ithaca scoring in the first eight minutes on a goal by Amanda Rissmeyer to put the Bombers up 1-0. It would take Wilkes a while before finding the net, which finally occurred in the 27th minute when Jenna DiSabatino (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) found Amanda Tilley (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) for the Lady Colonel's first score. The tie would last until the end of the first period.

In the second frame Wilkes wasted no time in putting up their second score, as once again Jenna DiSabatino (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) passed out an assist to Jennifer Keegan (Shohola, Pa./Delaware Valley) in the second minute of the half to put Wilkes up 2-1. The Lady Colonels would tack on another goal in the 54th minute when Amanda Peters (Catasauqua/Catasauqua) found Jenna DiSabatino (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) for her 12th goal of the year.

Wilkes out-shot Ithaca on the day 24-8, and had 21 penalty corners while the Bombers only had one. Despite allowing one goal early, goalie Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) had another stellar performance, saving four shots in an almost perfect game.

With the victory Wilkes improves to 9-2 on the season, and will look to continue their winning ways when they host DeSales on Saturday, Oct. 10 at Artillery Park. That game will begin at 12:00 p.m.
