Box Score
The Wilkes University field hockey team hosted rival King's College on Wednesday in Freedom Conference playoff action, and after over 70 minutes of play, fell to the Monarchs by a score of 2-1.
Wilkes brought a 15-2 record into the contest, and had defeated the 9-8 Monarchs 3-2 earlier in the season at King's College.
King's was the first to score in the contest when Shelby Trenge found Shawna Walp for her fifth score of the season, putting the Monarchs ahead 1-0. That lead did not last long, as three minutes later Wilkes sophomore
Amanda Peters (Catasauqua/Catasauqua) found
Jenna DiSabatino (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) for her 16th score of the year. The two teams would finish out the period in a tie, 1-1.
In the second period each team clamped down on defense, and although the Lady Colonels fired 10 shots in the half, they were unable to break the tie, forcing the game into overtime.
In the overtime period Wilkes got off one shot, but the Monarchs put pressure on the Lady Colonel defense, and a pass from the top of the circle from Walp was deflected into the Wilkes goal by Jenera Quinones, ending the game at 2-1.
Wilkes out-shot the Monarchs in the game, 21-13, while goalie
Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) recorded six saves.
The Lady Colonels will now wait for what is in store concerning their postseason future.
