CENTER VALLEY – DeSales University jumped out to a double-digit lead just over five minutes into the game and the Bulldogs would ride the early start to a 78-64 win over Wilkes University. With the win, the Bulldogs remained perfect in Freedom Conference play at 6-0.

DeSales jumped out to a 14-4 lead after Rob Schubach, who finished with 11 points, made a layup 5:39 into the game. Wilkes would cut the lead to seven shortly after, but a three-pointer by Schubach with 9:55 to go in the first gave the Bulldogs a double-digit lead which they would keep the rest of the period. They would go into the locker room with a 37-24 advantage.

Wilkes hit 40 percent (10-25) from the field in the first half, but DeSales was red-hot, hitting nearly 54 percent of their shots, including 40 percent from beyond the three-point line.

The second half saw the Colonels come to life after falling behind by as many as 17 points, they would use a 27-12 run over the next 10 minutes to pull within two (55-53) with 8:53 to go after Tom Kresge (Brodheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) hit a three-pointer. He would finish with a team-high 20 points, marking the ninth time this season he has reached the 20-point plateau.

DeSales used a run of its own to jump out to a double-digit lead once again with 5:26 to go and kept the Colonels at bay the rest of the way.

Two other players finished in double-figures for the Colonels with Anthony Gabriel (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) and Paul Huch (Tuckerton, NJ/Pinelands Regional) adding 14 and 11 respectively. It was a tough night for the five Wilkes guards as they combined for 4-for-14 from the field with a total of 12 points. The Colonels moved to 9-7 overall and 1-5 in Freedom Conference play.

Wilkes will be looking to right the ship on Saturday when they host Delaware Valley at 3 p.m. in the Marts Center.
