Wilkes University head coach Jon Laudenslager picked up his 100th career victory as the leader of the Colonel wrestling program after his team defeated Gettysburg and Plymouth on its home courts.

The Colonels opened the day with a 29-21 win over Gettysburg before giving Laudenslager his 100th victory after downing Plymouth State 24-15. Wilkes ended the day with a 30-12 setback to Division II opponent Kutztown.

In the first match, Gettysburg jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead after registering a pin at 125, but the Bullets would forfeit at 133 to tie the match at six each. At 141, Jared Brownmiller (Lehighton, PA/Lehighton) would give the Colonels the lead for good after he picked up an 11-2 major decision win over Jack Bostrom.

Anthony Dattolo (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury), who went 2-0 on the day, pinned Michael Slabinski in 1:35 at the 149-pound division to give Wilkes a 16-6 lead. Gettysburg won the next match 5-2 at 157 before Wilkes won three-straight including a pin by Ben Marich (Kempton, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) at 165 and a 9-0 major decision win for Jesse Villella (Port Crane, NY/Chenango Forks) at 174.

In the Plymouth State match, the Panthers won the first two matches, including a pin at 133, but the Colonels bounced back to win the next three bouts to take a 13-9 advantage. Jeff Peterson (Edison, NJ/Edison) took a 15-3 major decision win over Pat Cassella at 141 before Dattolo won his match 8-2. In his only match of the day, Matt Ellery (Somerset, NJ/Middlesex) recorded a pin over James Matlack in 5:32 in the 157-pound division.

Plymouth State kept the match close after winning at 165 to make it 13-12, but three-straight wins by the Colonels kept the Panthers at bay. At 174, Frank Heffernan (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) tallied a 15-0 technical fall win in 4:03 over Pete Bronder, while Kevin Gerhart (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin) and Zach Pizarro (Easton, Pa./Easton) both won their matches.

In the final contest of the day, Kutztown opened with a pin at 125, but A.J. Fisher answered with a pin over Austin Williams in 5:18 in the 133-pound division to tie the match at six. The Golden Bears would take a technical fall win at 141 to take an 11-6 lead which they would not lose the rest of the way.

Heffernan won his second bout of the day, a 6-2 decision over David Zeek, while Pizarro, who also won two matches, beat Scott Snyder 5-3.

With the wins, the Colonels improved to 21-5 and will remain at home when they face Ithaca on Friday, Feb. 5 in the Marts Center.
