Marissa Harrison (Shavertown, Lake-Lehman) broke the Wilkes University career kills record, getting 18 in a 3-1 loss to Messiah College, today at the Freedom/Commonwealth Crossover in Grantham. Harrison needed just three kills to break the record, entering today with 1,207 kills. The old record, held by Alicia Vieselmeyer since 2005, was 1,209.
Harrison was on fire, as the Lady Colonels (8-11) pushed Messiah (14-4) in three of the four games. Wilkes defeated the Falcons 26-24 in game one, before falling 25-22, 25-12 and 25-19 in the final three games. Harrison finished with those 18 kills on 35 total attacks, a .486 hitting percentage.
Kate McGurk (Swarthmore, Ridley) dished out 17 assists while
Allie Kelleher (Sayre, Athens Area) and
Erin Nothstein (Mertztown, Brandywine Heights) had 16 and 14 digs, respectively.
The Lady Colonels also fell to Widener 3-0 later in the day. Details from the match are not available.
Wilkes returns to the court this Tuesday, traveling to Center Valley to take on DeSales. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
