DALLAS – Kaitlyn Bevans (Beaver Meadows, Hazleton) scored two goals and Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, Dallas) saved seven shots as Wilkes University defeated Misericordia University 3-1 in Freedom Conference field hockey action on Tuesday night.

The Lady Colonels struck first, as Bevans broke up a scramble in front of the cage just 10:01 into the game. The goal came off Wilkes' fourth corner of the first half, including three in a span of 2:07.

Misericordia struck back quickly, knotting the score at 1-1 a little over six minutes later when Samantha Panuski got one past Davenport at the 16:10 mark. Wilkes threatened to take the lead late in the first half, but Lauren Pawling's (Columbia, Manheim Central) shot at 33:26 went wide and a try by Chelsea Minix (Mickleton, NJ, Kingsway) 20 seconds later was saved.

It wouldn't take long for the Lady Colonels to take that 2-1 lead, however, as Ashley Ream (Manheim, Manheim Central) redirected a Gina Elmy (Wilkes-Barre, G.A.R) shot to go up one 8:16 into the second half. Wilkes then came right back, taking control with Bevans second goal of the game on a pass from Minix.

Misericordia tried getting back in the game late, getting off seven shots in the final 21 minutes of play, but Davenport and the Lady Colonels defense either forced a wide shot or came up with the save as Wilkes went on to the two-goal victory.

Wilkes ends its season with two games this weekend, traveling to Mahwah, NJ to take on Ramapo this Friday evening before going to Elizabethtown on Saturday afternoon.
