WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes University drops both of its Friday night matches to visiting Cabrini College and Marietta College at the Marts Center.
The Lady Colonels fought Cabrini (13-4) tough, rallying in game one before eventually falling 25-22. They went back-and-forth with the Cavaliers in game two, before Cabrini made a late run, winning 25-16. Game three saw much of the same, tied at eight-apiece, before Cabrini made another late run, winning 25-14 for the three-game sweep.
Erin Nothstein (Mertztown, Brandywine Heights) and
Allie Kelleher (Sayre, Athens Area) each posted 15 digs while
Kate McGurk (Swarthmore, Ridley) had 12 assists.
In the night's second match, Marietta jumped out to a quick lead, gaining a 25-13 game one win. The Pioneers would again get up on Wilkes in game two, but the Lady Colonels would rally again before falling 25-22. Wilkes fell behind in game three, trailing 22-16 before coming back to knot the score at 24-apiece before Marietta eventually took the 26-24 win.
Nothstein added 11 more digs against the Pioneers while McGurk had eight assists, nine digs and three aces.
The Lady Colonels (8-14, 3-1) will get back to their Freedom Conference schedule next week when they host Delaware Valley on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
