Colonels Notebook
• The Colonels finished first of nine teams at the season opening Monarch
Invitational Tournament at King's College.
• Myzar Mendoza (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) (125), Nathan White (Ellicott City, MD/River Hill) (157) and Dustin Stough (Friendsville, MD/Northern Garrett) (174) all took home titles last week, while seven other Colonels placed 2nd or 3rd.
• The Colonels 21 wrestlers this weekend went a combined 66-29 (.694) last Saturday at the Monarch Invititational.
• Last season the Colonels won three of their four duals at this event, beating NYU 31-6, Scranton 43-0 and Centenary 31-9. Wilkes fell to Cortland 21-9.
• Opening the 2010-11 season at No. 24, the Colonels wrapped up last season ranked 28th in the NWCA Division III rankings.
• The Colonels 2010-11 roster goes 49 deep with a class breakdown of: 3 seniors; 7 juniors; 16 sophomores; and 23 freshmen.
• The roster also features athletes from five states: Pennsylvania - 24; New Jersey - 17; Maryland - 5; Massachusetts and Virginia - 1.
• Wilkes lost two All-Americans from last year's roster: Zach Pizarro (Easton, Pa./Easton) and Frank Heffernan (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh). Pizarro was an A-A at 197 a year ago while Heffernan earned A-A honors at 174 in 2008-09.
