LYNAM’S 19 SECOND HALF POINTS NOT ENOUGH AS LADY COLONELS FALL TO FDU-FLORHAM

MADISON, NJ – Sam Lynam (Spinnerstown/Quakertown) scored 30 points, including 19 in the second half, but FDU-Florham outscored the Lady Colonels down the stretch as Wilkes University fell to the Devils 90-73 in Freedom Conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon in New Jersey.

The Lady Colonels (1-5, 0-2) found themselves down by just seven points at halftime, as Wilkes held the conference's leading scorer, the Devils Shaleah Alston, to just two points.

Both teams went back-and-forth in the early going, as FDU took a 12-9 lead before Erin Schneider (Colchester, CT/Holy Name)'s three-pointer tied the game at the 11:16 mark in the first half. Another three by Schneider two minutes later gave the Lady Colonels a 16-14 lead, their first of the game.

The Devils went back on top by five, leaving 24-19 with 6:41 left, Wilkes came back to tie the score again on Whitney Connolly (Liberty, PA/Liberty)'s jumper less than two minutes later. A 13-6 run by FDU in the last five minutes gave the Devils the lead at the break.

FDU came out in the second half strong, going on a 13-5 run over the first four minutes to take a 50-35 lead. A three-pointer from Lynam stopped the run, but the Devils responded by scoring the next 10 points to take a commanding 60-38 lead with 11:19 left.

FDU kept the pressure on the Lady Colonels, leading by as many as 24 and outscoring Wilkes by 10 in the second half to take the 17-point win.

Matil Mangual stepped up for the Devils posting a double-double with 25 points and 13 rebounds, hitting 8-of-16 from the field and 9-of-10 from the foul line. She was one of four Devils to reach double-figures in scoring, as Brianna Nicholls scored 18, Kandace Johnson had 12 and Jasmine Washington came off the bench to add 10 points.

Lynam finished the game 11-of-21 from the field, including 3-of-8 from three, and went 5-of-6 from the line in 31 minutes of action. Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) added 10 points, all in the second half as she went 4-of-8 from the floor in the last 20 minutes. She added seven rebounds and two assists. Connolly also scored 10 points, while Schneider scored nine and Brittany Ely (Montrose/Montrose) had seven points and added six rebounds.

The Lady Colonels return to the court on Monday as they host Baptist Bible College at the Marts Center. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
