WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes University women's basketball head coach Al Berger has announced the hiring of Monica Spence as the team's assistant coach.

Spence joins the Colonel staff after four seasons as a coach at Lackawanna College, spending three as the head coach from 2022-2025. Under her leadership, the team made three NJCAA Region 19 playoff appearances with multiple all-conference selections.

Prior to her time at Lackawanna, Spence coached for Stars and Stripes LLC as an assistant men's ABA basketball coach from October 2020 to April 2021, and at the Walker League as a 14U boys/girls AAU head coach from March 2018 to October 2021.

A resident of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Spence graduated from the Allied Medical & Technical Institute in October of 2009 with an associate's degree in science.
