WILKES-BARRE –
Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, Dallas) saved 18 shots as Wilkes University defeated Arcadia University 2-1 in non-conference field hockey action on Saturday night at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
The Lady Colonels (1-1) didn't waste any time getting on the board, getting an unassisted goal from
Marni Mancini (Mountain Top, Crestwood) just 1:21 into the contest.
Arcadia (3-1) came on strong offensively, getting off 11 shots in the first half. However, Davenport came up huge, saving six of those.
Wilkes went up by two scores just a little over two minutes into the second half, as
Olivia Dworak (Dupont, Wyoming Seminary) got her own rebound off a shot and found the back of the cage. Arcadia continued to put the pressure on as Davenport and the rest of the Lady Colonels defense buckled down.
The Knights were able to get on the board at the 24:59 mark of the second half, as Abigail Brockelbank found the back of the cage off a rebound of her own shot. Arcadia would get off six more shots in the game's final eight minutes, but each time was turned away by Davenport and the rest of the Wilkes defense as the Lady Colonels sealed the win.
Wilkes returns to the field on Monday when they travel to Scranton to take on Marywood University. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
