SCRANTON –
Amanda Peters (Catasauqua, Catasauqua) scored a goal with 11:36 remaining, breaking a 1-1 tie and leading Wilkes University past Marywood University 2-1 in non-conference field hockey action on Monday night in Scranton.
The Lady Colonels (2-1) struck quickly, getting a goal from
Marni Mancini (Mountain Top, Crestwood) just 1:03 into the game. It was Mancini's second goal in as many games and came off a deflected shot after a penalty corner. Wilkes continued to attack, getting 11 penalty corners and eight shots off in the first half, but was unable to get another score.
Marywood finally got on the board at the 46:36 mark as Julie Dougherty scored off a penalty corner, knotting the game at one-apiece.
Wilkes continued on the attack however, getting nine more second half penalty corners and six shots, getting the game winning goal from Peters, her first of the season.
Kaitlyn Bevans (Beaver Meadows, Hazleton) and
Olivia Dworak (Dupont, Wyoming Seminary) each notched assists while
Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, Dallas) went all 70 minutes in the cage, saving three shots.
The Lady Colonels return to the field on Thursday when they host Keystone at 7:00 p.m. from the Ralston Athletic Complex.
