Box vs. Baptist Bible
WILLIAMSPORT – The Wilkes University volleyball team took on Lycoming and Baptist Bible on Saturday in a tri-match at Lycoming College. The Lady Colonels fell to both teams by a final count of 3-1.
In their first game against Lycoming, the Lady Colonels fell by scores of 25-17, 25-15, 25-27, and 25-19. Wilkes was led by
Marissa Harrison (Shavertown, Lake-Lehman) in the match, who had 13 kills and a .167 hitting percentage.
Kate McGurk (Swarthmore, Ridley) passed out 22 assists, while
Erin Nothstein (Mertztown, Brandywine Heights) had 14 digs.
Wilkes had 13 less kills and 10 more hitting errors in the match than the Warriors who recorded a hitting percentage that was three times better than the Lady Colonels.
In the second match Wilkes fell by scores of 17-25, 25-17, 25-18, and 25-17. Despite winning the first contest, Wilkes couldn't hang on the rest of the way.
Harrison recorded a double-double in the match with 11 kills and 12 digs.
Alex Zero (Moscow, North Pocono) and
Kate McGurk (Swarthmore/Ridley) combined for 21 assists, while Nothstein and
Allie Kelleher (Sayre, Athens Area) had 29 digs between them both. Wilkes had just a .067 hitting percentage, while Baptist Bible hit .131 in the match.
Wilkes will have a chance to recover when they host conference foe Manhattanville on Monday, Sept 20. That match will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Marts Center.
