WILKES-BARRE – Alex Zero (Moscow, North Pocono) and Kate McGurk (Swarthmore, Ridley) combined for 36 assists and the Lady Colonels had 38 kills and a .323 hitting percentage as Wilkes University defeated Manhattanville College 3-0 in Freedom Conference volleyball action on Monday night at the Marts Center.

The Lady Colonels (7-7, 2-0) blew through the first game 25-10, getting four kills each from Marissa Harrison (Shavertown, Lake-Lehman) and Casey Bohan (Harding, Wyoming Area).

Manhattanville kept the second game close as they were down just 10-9 before Wilkes picked up four straight points to take a 14-9 lead. After the Valiants rebounded with four consecutive points of their own, the Lady Colonels went on an 11-4 run, getting a kill from Bohan to close out the game 25-17.

The third game was again close, as both teams were tied at six apiece before Wilkes went on a 10-4 run to take a 16-10 lead. The Valiants then narrowed the gap to 18-13 before the Lady Colonels closed it out on a 7-1 run for the win.

Allie Kelleher (Sayre, Athens Area) posted 16 digs and had three service aces, all consecutive. Bohan ended the match with eight kills on 13 total attacks and Harrison finished with 11 kills, bringing her career total to 1,166, just 44 short of Wilkes' all-time school record.

The Lady Colonels will head to Stevenson, MD this weekend for a tri-match with Stevenson University and Albright College on Saturday.
