WILKES-BARRE – TJ Brandt (Bloomsburg, Central Columbia)'s game-winning goal in the 86th minute propelled Wilkes University to a 5-4 win over Baptist Bible College in non-conference men's soccer action on Thursday night at the Ralston Athletic Complex.

Brandt found the top left corner of the net after ball faking past the defender on the unassisted goal to give the Colonels their first win of the season.

The scoring opened up 17:35 into the game when BBC's Ben Clark found the back of the net on a pass from Alan Elliott. It wouldn't take long for Wilkes to respond as Brandt got his first goal of the game a minute later when his shot from midfield bounced over the keeper's outstretched hands and into the goal.

It would stay knotted at one for nearly 23 more minutes until Josiah Mantz put BBC up one in the 42nd minute. The Colonels would again respond quickly as Michael Turner (Hudson, Coughlin) tied it at two apiece just two minutes later, firing a pass from Joe Brennan (Oakdale, CT, Montville) past the goalie.

Wilkes struck first in the second half, as Turner found Andrew Asare (Accra, Ghana, SOS HGIC) just seven minutes in to take a 3-2 lead. BBC tied it up nine minutes later as Mantz scored his second goal of the game in the 62nd minute. The Colonels responded yet again as Brennan made a nice pass to Phillip LaBelle (Bloomsburg, Bloomsburg) as he scored to give Wilkes a 4-3 advantage with less than 25 minutes left.

BBC did not give up as Clark scored his second after some nice ball work in the 75th minute, which would eventually set up the game-winner from Brandt.

The Colonels (1-7) look to make it a two-game winning streak this Saturday when they host Lebanon Valley College. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
