WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University field hockey team hosted No. 9 Eastern on Saturday in its first Freedom Conference matchup of the year. Despite playing the Eagles very well, the Lady Colonels couldn't find the back of the keep, falling 2-0 after 70 minutes of play.

The Eagles struck in the 25th minute of the contest on a breakaway goal after Wilkes was close to scoring itself. The Lady Colonels held on the rest of the period despite being outshot 10-6

In the second period Eastern scored an early goal on another breakaway, but the rest of the half Wilkes was able to place pressure on the Eagles. Unfortunately, Wilkes couldn't pierce the Eastern defense for a score, falling 2-0.

Wilkes was outshot 17-10, but Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, Dallas) recorded 11 saves to keep the Lady Colonels in the contest. Kaitlyn Bevans (Beaver Meadows, Hazleton) was able to get off two shots on goal on the afternoon.

The Lady Colonels will have a chance to bounce back when they host conference foe FDU-Florham on Saturday, Oct. 2. That game will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
