OWINGS MILLS, MD – Wilkes University dropped both of its matches, falling to Stevenson University 3-0 and Albright College 3-2, in a Saturday afternoon tri-match at Stevenson.
Against Albright, the Lady Colonels dropped the first two games 25-14 and 25-18 before rebounding for two huge wins, 25-23 and 27-25. Albright then got the best of Wilkes, winning 15-8 in the fifth game.
Marissa Harrison (Shavertown, Lake-Lehman) and
Casey Bohan (Harding, Wyoming Area) were on the attack for the Lady Colonels, tallying 14 and 11 kills and 53 and 41 attacks, respectively.
Kate McGurk (Swarthmore, Ridley) had 22 assists while
Alex Zero (Moscow, North Pocono) added 14 more in the five-setter.
Erin Nothstein (Mertztown, Brandywine Heights) and
Allie Kelleher (Sayre, Athens Area) led the defensive effort for Wilkes, as Nothstein collected 26 digs and Kelleher 21. McGurk added 17 digs of her own.
The Lady Colonels dropped its match to Stevenson 25-13, 25-17 and 25-12. The Mustangs held the advantage in kills (39 - 19) and hitting percentage (.210 - .021) as Harrison had eight kills, Zero had 11 assists while Nothstein added 17 digs.
With her 22 kills on Saturday, Harrison now stands just 22 shy of the all-time school record with 1,188. She'll look to break the record next Wednesday when the Lady Colonels host rival King's College at 7:00 p.m. at the Marts Center.
