WILKES-BARRE – The Colonels
Shane Everett (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) pinned Tyler Wilton in 1:19 as 17th-ranked Wilkes University narrowly defeated East Stroudsburg University 24-22 in college wrestling action on Thursday night at the Marts Center.
The Colonels picked up forfeit victories at 125, 133 and 149 as the Division II Warriors spotted Wilkes 18 points. Everett's fall came at 157, putting the Colonels up 24-6 with four bouts left.
ESU followed with a fall of its own as Jesse Dunn pinned
Brandon Dixon (Factoryville, PA/Lackawanna Trail) (165) at 5:45. After back-to-back wins by decision for the Warriors, Ed Ebewo managed a major decision over the Colonels
Dave Oberrender (Freeland, PA/Hazleton) as Wilkes preserved the two-point win.

Seth Bartlett (Mongtomery/Montgomery) picked up the second straight forfeit win.
141 – After a scoreless opening period, ESU's Adam Hluschak escaped off the opening in period two and got a takedown and two-point near fall on
Ryan Wilson (Manasquan, NJ/Wall Township). Hluschak dominated the third period getting another near fall before getting the 8-1 win.
149 – Sixth-ranked
Anthony Dattolo (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) gets a Colonels win by forfeit.
157 – Everett got his 16th win of the season just 1:19 in.
165 – Dixon carried a 4-3 lead into the third period over Dunn before a takedown and resulting pin at the 5:45 mark gave ESU the fall and six points, cutting the Colonels lead to 24-12.
174 – Jeff Jacobs of ESU took a 4-2 lead into the second period with two takedowns of
Dustin Stough (Friendsville, MD/Northern Garrett). Neither was able to get anything more than an escape the rest of the bout as Jacobs took the 5-3 decision.
184 –
Seth Gray (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) wasn't able to get much going against James Gonzalez. Down 3-0 going into the final period, Gray escaped off the start, but Gonzalez rebounded with a takedown and a three-point near fall, going on to take the 8-2 decision.
197 – Going into the night's final bout as heavyweight started the match, the Colonels led 24-18 with Oberrender facing Ebewo. Ebewo controlled much of the match, picking up a takedown in both first and second periods and going into the third ahead 5-2 but needing a pin to tie it up. Oberrender escaped off the start, but Ebewo got a takedown and a three-point near fall and controlled the riding time, coming away with the 11-3 major decision, but just four points for ESU.
285 – Leading off the Colonels was
Chris Smith (Wantage, NJ/High Point), who picked up escapes in each of the first two periods but wasn't able to get much going against Will Weaver of the Warriors. Weaver got takedowns in both the first and second periods, but Smith held him off the in third as Weaver added riding time to take the decision at 5-3.
The Colonels, now 11-7-1 on the year, hit the mats next Friday as they host No. 15 TCNJ. The match is schedule to start at 7:00 p.m. from the Marts Center.
