WILKES FIELD HOCKEY UPENDS MISERICORDIA 3-2 ON SENIOR NIGHT
 
EDWARDSVILLE – Ashley Ream (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) scored two goals including the game-winner with just under ten minutes left to play and Kaitlyn Bevans (Beaver Meadows, PA/Hazleton) added two assists to lead Wilkes University to a 3-2 Freedom Conference victory over visiting Misericordia University on senior night at Schmidt Stadium.
 
Wilkes improves to 4-10 overall and 3-4 in league play. Misericordia drops to 3-10 overall and 1-5 in conference matches.
 
Misericordia struck first with a goal from Haley Ellis late in the first half to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead at the break. Wilkes responded in the second frame as Ream notched her first of the contest tipping in a Bevans shot from the top of the circle to tie the game at 1-1 at 41:42. Lauren Pawling (Columbia, PA/Manheim Central) would give Wilkes a 2-1 lead just :45 later when she scored off a penalty corner taken by Ream.
 
Ellis tied the game at 2-2 at 48:38 for a second time before Ream deflected a Bevans shot just inside the right post to seal the conference victory for the Lady Colonels.
 
Wilkes held a 16-9 shot advantage while garnering 20 penalty corners to Misericordia's four attempts. Wilkes keeper Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, PA/Dallas) finished with five saves to record the win in net. Grace Riker and Haley Brandt split time in net for the Cougars combining for eight stops.
 
Lindsey Davenport Senior Night
The game marked the final home contest for senior Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, PA/Dallas) who will leave the program as one of the most decorated goalies in its history. Davenport currently ranks fourth in Division III in career minutes in net (4,882), 25th in career goals against average (1.92), and ninth in saves with 494. Her 12 career shutouts ranks second on the school's all-time list.

The team also welcomed four guest coaches down to the field for the game as part of their second annual “Guest Coaches Night”.
 
Wilkes concludes their 2011 slate with a road matchup Saturday at Montclair State University. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
