WILKES FIELD HOCKEY EDGED BY WILLIAM PATTERSON, 3-0

WAYNE, NJ – Host William Patterson University scored three second half goals to break open a scoreless first half of play to post a 3-0 win over visiting Wilkes University in non-conference field hockey action Sunday afternoon.

Wilkes falls to 2-8 overall on the season, while William Patterson improves to 3-10 on the year.

After a scoreless first 41:00 minutes, William Patterson's Taylor Clayton broke the tie netting the eventual game-winner when she knocked in a penalty corner at the 41:13 mark of the second half. Lauren Boegly made it 2-0 when she found the back of the cage off an assist from Jaclyn Bertos at 42:29.

The Pioneers would add one more insurance tally late in the contest as Bertos notched her second helper of the afternoon on Jessica Nendze's goal with 4:50 left to play.

William Patterson held a slight 15-13 shot advantage, while Wilkes garnered nine penalty corners to WPU's seven attempts.

Wilkes goalie Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, PA/Dallas) finished with nine saves in net, while Pioneers keeper Kellye Statz made nine stops to record the shutout.

Wilkes will be idle until Saturday when the Lady Colonels host DeSales University for a Freedom Conference matchup scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Schmidt Stadium.
