Steve Finkernagel WILKES MEN'S BASKETBALL UPENDS PSU HARRISBURG 79-68 IN DAYS INN TIP-OFF TOURNAMENT CONSOLATION GAME 11/19/2011 5:11:00 PM Box Score WILKES MEN'S BASKETBALL UPENDS PSU HARRISBURG 79-68 IN DAYS INN TIP-OFF TOURNEY CONSOLATION GAME CARLISLE, PA – Senior forward Paul Huch (Tuckerton, NJ/Pinelands Regional) continued his strong play in the early season scoring 18 points and grabbing 24 rebounds to lead Wilkes University to a 79-68 win over Penn State Harrisburg in the consolation game of the Days Inn Tip-Off Tournament Saturday afternoon at Dickinson College. Wilkes moves to 2-1 overall on the year while PSU Harrisburg falls to 1-2. Huch provided much of the scoring earlier hitting a baseline jumper to give Wilkes a 14-8 advantage with 12:54 left in the half. The Lions responded to tie and take their first lead of the contest using a 13-5 run to grab a 27-19 lead with 8:48 left until the break. From there, freshman Jourdon Wilson (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) went on a 7-0 run of his own hitting two outside jumpers before canning a deep trey to tie the game at 33-33 with 2:18 remaining in the first frame. Two Matt Mullins (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley)' free throws followed by a Huch triple gave Wilkes a 38-35 advantage heading into the break. The lead grew to 11 midway through the second half as Tyler Brenitsky and Huch connected on back-to-back three-pointers to keep the Colonels ahead for good. The Colonels used a balanced attack against the Lions as five Wilkes players reached double figures in scoring. Huch was efficient from the floor recording his second straight double-double finishing 4-for-13 from the field and 8-of-12 from the charity stripe. Huch's 24 rebounds is the second most in a single game in school history, one behind George Morgan's 25 boards against Lycoming December 4, 1947. Mullins followed with 16 points and four rebounds, while Kendall Hinze (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) added 14 points and 11 rebounds, his first double-double of the year. Wilson contributed 14 points and dished out four assists, while Breznitsky was the fifth Colonel in double figures with 10 points including three treys. Wilkes dominated the paint outrebounding PSU Harrisburg 56-37 in the contest including a season-best 17 offensive boards. The Colonels will return home and welcome Baptist Bible College Tuesday for a non-league matchup scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the Marts Center. Print Friendly Version
