Full Bracket / Championships Schedule / Wilkes Championships Preview

LA CROSSE, WI - Wilkes University's Anthony Dattolo (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) got wins in his first and third matches of the day as he moved on to the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket at the NCAA Division III Wrestling National Championships on Friday.

Dattolo started with a 15-7 victory over Andrew Johnson of Heidelberg University in the opening round, moving on to face Augsburg's Tony Valek, last year's national runner-up at 149. Valek, the fourth seed, picked up the pin, pushing Dattolo to the consolation bracket.

In his last match of the evening, Dattolo took care of Kris Magruder from Wisconsin-Stevens Point, getting a 6-4 decision. The win was Dattolo's second of the year over Magruder and guaranteed the junior 2011 All-American status no matter how he ends his trip to the national championships on Saturday.

Dattolo will open on Saturday with Delaware Valley College's Zac Andrews, who he earned a major decision over back on December 11. A loss will put him in the seventh place match, but a win would get him to the fifth place match and two wins would also him to battle for third place in the nation.

Action on Saturday morning is set to get underway at 11:00 a.m. EST.
