WILKES VOLLEYBALL GOES 1-1 ON DAY ONE OF MORAVIAN INVITATIONAL

BETHLEHEM, PA – The Wilkes University volleyball team went 1-1 to open the 2011 campaign at the 9th Annual Greyhound Premiere Invitational held at Moravian College on Friday afternoon. The Lady Colonels fell 3-0 against Cabrini College before earning a 3-1 victory against Wesley in the two-day tourney.

Wilkes fell in straight sets to Cabrini by scores of 18-25, 15-25, and 7-25. Emily DeBuck (Pine Island, NY/Warwick Valley) led the way with four kills and nine digs. Kate McGurk (Swarthmore/Ridley) added a team-high 13 assists and four kills, while Paige Trusty (Durham, CT/Coginchaug) contributed a team-best six kills and three digs. Erin Nothstein (Mertztown/Brandywine Heights) posted seven digs and one service ace in the loss.

The Lady Colonels took the match against Wesley in four sets after losing the first by scores of 23-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-14. Trusty was the top offensive performer posting 11 kills and seven digs. Casey Bohan (Harding/Wyoming Area) added eight kills, while DeBuck notched five kills and eight digs. Nothstein contributed 14 digs, and McGurk led the passing game with 23 assists, five digs, and three kills.

Wilkes will conclude play at the Invitational on Saturday.
