WILKES FIELD HOCKEY FALLS SHORT IN 3-1 LOSS AGAINST ALVERNIA
 
EDWARDSVILLE – After a scoreless first half of play, visiting Alvernia University used two Sam Landis goals to post a tough 3-1 non-conference victory over Wilkes University Monday night in field hockey action at Schmidt Stadium.

With the loss Wilkes slips to 1-5 overall, while Alvernia improves to 6-2 on the year.

Aliya Frankel (Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit) put Wilkes up early in the second half when she scored her second goal in as many games at the 37:55 mark. Alvernia answered to tie the game at 1-1 with a Katie Eby goal off an assist from Miranda Peto. Landis then cashed in twice including the game-winner with 46:40 on the clock to preserve the win for the Crusaders.

Alvernia held a 30-5 shot advantage, while garnering 19 penalty corners to Wilkes' six attempts. Wilkes keeper Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, PA/Dallas) finished with 21 saves including several point blank stops. Alvernia goalie Erin Wunsch made three stops to record the win in net.

Wilkes will return to Freedom Conference play Friday when they travel to Madison, N.J. for a matchup with FDU-Florham at 6:00 p.m.
